Okay, so I am a little behind on updates. Here is the latest:

Friday – Andrew was breathing on his own for most of the day. My parents came in to find his trache tube covered with a cap. Before, it was a passimer cap which allowed air to go in. During his physical therapy, he walked about 5 steps with support from his therapist and nurse. They did most of the work, but Andrew helped. He did reach for the bathroom door handle and tried to open it, but they were too close to the door. They turned around and tried again. But he only made it a few steps before getting tired. So the therapist opened the door for him.

He also was doing more on command. The speech therapist called him on his room phone and talked to him. When she was finished talking, he put the phone down by his side. My Mom told him to hang up the phone if he was done with it and he did. So he is starting to understand a little more.

My parents were not too excited about the rehabilitation facilities. They both were similar to patients in the ICU and the patients were pretty old. My parents want something that will encourage him more and have patients closer to his age. Nothing has been determined yet.

Saturday – Andrew had another good day. He has had some visitors along with one of his therapist. His therapist or nurse helped him get dressed. They put on hospital pants and Teddy’s T-shirt he gave him for his birthday, which was of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My Dad said he looked a lot better in some clothes instead of his hospital gown. My Mom got to give him some spoonfuls of a milkshake, which is something different he hasn’t had yet at the hospital. Other than that, he was pretty tired out because he didn’t sleep much on Friday.

My Mom had an interview with another rehabilitation center on Saturday. They were going to review his records and decide by Monday. This is the rehabilitation center the nurses and doctors recommend. My Mom really liked it! Let’s pray for Andrew to get into this rehabilitation center to help him with his road to recovery.
