Andrew has had a pretty two good days. Yesterday the therapist was feeding him banana and chocolate pudding. The therapist was spooning it up, but Andrew was taking the spoon from her and feeding himself. He even had a little bit on his mustache and the therapist told him to get it. She showed him how by licking her lip and encouraging him to do the same. He did move his tongue around but did not get it. She handed him a napkin and he wiped his mouth. Pretty exciting he is starting to become a little more self sufficient.
Everyday they are having him sit up for about three hours in his bed chair. He’s been getting better with handling the movement. The physical therapist is still having him practice standing as well. The speech therapist has been clogging his trache each day for about three hours, where he is breathing on his own.
Today Andrew was more agitated. He’s becoming more aware and realizing all the things he can’t do. My parents said they can tell he is upset and has even reached over to try and get his right side to move. It is getting harder for my parents because they hate to see him so upset.
Today Andrew had baby food – apricots and a half a cup of juice. He is holding the spoon and cup himself, but the therapist gets it ready for him. But he is feeding himself. The speech therapist is still trying to have him communicate by talking or making noises, but so far he hasn’t done anything yet.
His spirits seemed to get a little better this evening as his good friends came to visit. My parents say they think they are getting on his nerves a little bit. But I am sure Andrew is glad they are there. He’s probably just sick of laying there and not being able to do everything he is used to doing.
Keeping him and my parents in my prayers. Hoping Andrew continues to fight as he becomes aware of the challenges ahead of him.
