Today was another good day for Andrew. My parents said he was watching TV and even half smiled during King and Queens at an appropriate part.

I talked to Andrew today on the phone and told him how much I missed and loved him and hope to see him soon. My Dad said he took the phone out of my Dad’s hand and put it to his ear on his own. Of course, he couldn’t say anything back, but my parents said he did his half smile when I talked to him. Small, but big steps that … Continue Reading

Andrew has moved back to the Critical Unit. His new room number is 8013, which is pretty interesting since his favorite number is 13. Another sign? I am thinking so. Anyways, not much new. My parents said he is doing well and they don’t expect him to be in the Critical Unit very long. They will eventually move him on to some type of rehab community.

All of the doctors and nurses from ICU came by Andrew’s room to say goodbye to him. They called him a very special young man. … Continue Reading

Andrew had another wonderful day! My parents said he has been more alert since his surgery yesterday. His eyes are fully open and he is looking around more and tracking people better. Today he was scheduled for an angio-gram to see if the surgery was a success. His angio-gram showed that everything went well from his surgery. The doctors said his angio-gram looked great! Beautiful news to our ears!

My parents read more birthday cards to him. He even held them and looked at them. Of course, not totally focused and how much … Continue Reading

I just got a call from my parents. Andrew made it through surgery. The doctors clipped his aneurysm and replaced his skull flap (Cranioplasty). Andrew went in at about 4:30 p.m. (Indiana time) and got out at about 9:00 p.m. The surgery lasted about 5 hours with no complications.

Andrew is now being transferred back into ICU (his old floor for 28 days). He will be there for about two days to recover. They will be doing another Angiogram tomorrow to make sure everything went okay with the surgery. After a couple of days, … Continue Reading

Andrew had a good day today. He sat up in his hospital chair for about 3 hours today. My Dad says he hates wearing that helmet…he tries to take it off! Who could blame him!? Luckily, he probably won’t have to wear it much longer since they are planning on replacing his skull piece after this next surgery.

His physical and occupational therapy went well today. They are still working on teaching him how to swallow. They also worked on tracking with his eyes. He could track things for about 5 minutes, which is … Continue Reading
